Lakes Region Winery Wins Silver Medal at International Wine Competition
Sanbornton, NH – August 27, 2012 – Hermit Woods Winery’s Heirloom Crabapple wine took silver in the Indy International Wine competition held in Indianapolis Indiana this past month. The Indy is the largest scientifically organized and independent wine competition in the United States. This year’s competition received nearly 3,000 entries from 15 countries and 40 US states that were evaluated by 50 distinguished judges.
Heirloom Crabapple is one of Hermit Woods signature wines. The first batch (2008) was based on crabapples from a decorative crabapple tree at the winery. The Dolgo crabapples are an heirloom variety originally from Kazakhstan and introduced here several hundred years ago. They are relatively large for crabapples; beautiful, sweet, tart and tannic … perfect fruit for an exciting wine. As with all our wines, the fresh whole fruit is gently handled and processed raw with emphasis on getting the full fruit characteristics into the bottle.
